TEXRail – A Ride From DFW Airport and Fort Worth

TEXRail Thumbnail Article

Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport is one of the largest airpots in the United States. The airport resides at the middle of the DFW Metroplex. The east of DFW Airport is Dallas and the west of DFW Airport is Fort Worth. There are many options to travel to/from DFW Airport, such as: ride share, taxi, car rentals, or taking a train. In my opinion, the economical and cost effective to travel to/from DFW Airport is taking a train. There are three train lines that travels to/from DFW, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Silver and Orange Lines, and Trinity Metro TEXRail. DART travels to Dallas area and TEXRail travels to Downtown Fort Worth. In this blog, we are going to focus our ride experiences using TEXRail from DFW Airport to Downtown Fort Worth.

Below is the point of view train ride experience video (YouTube) from DFW Airport to T&P Station in Downtown Fort Worth.

TEXRail Amenities

Schedule & Travel Time

Everyday (and including holidays), in average the train departs every hour. The travel time between DFW Airport and Downtown Fort Worth is almost one hour.

Fares

As of August 2025, the full fare to ride this train is $2.00 (one way). For more information about fares, please visit their official webpage called Trinity Metro – Tickets.

There are two ways to purchase a ticket before boarding TEXRail, paper ticket from the ticket vending machine or using the GoPass App on your mobile phone (Android or iOS).

Train Amenities

Lavatory

Every TEXRail train has a lavatory onboard. The lavatory is located near the middle of the train. There is only one lavatory per train.

Quiet Car

All Quiet Car exists at the front or end of the train (where the train operator operates the train).

Seatings and tables

There are some tables on the train. Most trains have two by two seating arrangements. Almost all seats have USB-Type A Charger Port. On the ceilings, there are two digital displays, one display displays the upcoming station and the second display displays announcements.

Point of Interests along TEXRail

Fort Worth Stockyards

Fort Worth Stockyards, or Stockyards, is an historical district where there is a rodeo (especially on the weekends), cowboys/cowgirls, cattle drive, and Grapevine Vintage Railroad train.

Orange Line & TEXRail Transfer

The train does not stop at Stockyards. However, there is a shuttle bus that do stop in front of Stockyards. This shuttle bus is called the Orange Line, operated by Trinity Metro. The shuttle is not free but Trinity Metro recommends to purchase a local day pass ticket for $4.00 per person. If you already have a pass (Local Day Pass, Regional Day Pass, or other valid passes), there is no need to purchase another pass, transfer is free.

The two stations that Orange Line stops (and transfers to/from TEXRail) are Fort Worth Central Station Track 1 and North Side Station.

Downtown Fort Worth

Downtown Fort Worth is Fort Worth’s Business District (city hall, court houses, convention center, businesses, and major hotels). There are two major stations that serves Downtown Fort Worth: Fort Worth Central Station and T&P Station.

Fort Worth Central Station is a major station that serves, Trinity Railway Express (TRE) Commuter Train (to Dallas), Trinity Metro buses/shuttles, TEXRail, and Amtrak.

T&P is a historical station that is by the famous T&P (Texas & Pacific) building. That station serves TRE, TEXRail, and some Trinity Metro buses. It’s also a few blocks away from the Fort Worth Convention Center.

Opinion

In my opinion, riding the TEXRail between Downtown Fort Worth and DFW Airport (Terminal B) is the BEST way to travel. It is economical, smooth, clean, and quiet. One way ride between those two destinations cost only $2.00 per person (as of September 2025). It is way cheaper than taking a ride share or taxi.

The train is quiet and clean. And there are rail conductors that enforces the train security and well being of the passengers. I have not encountered no disordered conduct passenger. Unlike DART (except Silver Line), fare inspectors or transit police officers may (may not) board the train. However, with TEXRail, there is always a train conductor, inspecting tickets and enforcing passengers safety.

Since the train takes an hour to reach to its terminus, I am glad that the train offers lavatory. There are times that you need to relief yourself.

The drawbacks of this train is that there is no standard electrical outlet or USB Type-C Connector. The only electrical connector they have is USB Type-A (little by little, it is becoming obsolete in the future).

I wish Trinity Metro would do more to expand TEXRail to other parts in Fort Worth. Fort Worth is a beautiful Texas city with rich and historical western heritage (cowboys or cowgirls). No wonder that Fort Worth is known as the “East meet the West”. Fort Worth is one of the true Texans town.
