San Diego MTS Bus Route 992 Airport

San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) Bus Route 992 is the only bus that travels between San Diego International Airport (SAN) and Downtown San Diego (stopping by Santa Fe Station). At the airport, the MTS Bus Route 992 stops at all terminals.

If transferring to a San Diego Trolley (light rail/tram service), exit to Santa Fe Station.

There is another shuttle that travels to/from Old Town Transit Center Station (located north of Downtown San Diego). At Old Town Transit Center Station, passengers can transfer to Trolley (Blue or Green Line), COASTER Commuter Rail or other MTS Bus Routes. This shuttle is called Old Town Shuttle. On this blog, I’m going to focus on MTS Route 992 to Downtown San Diego.

  • Fare: $2.50
  • Arrives: Every 15-20 minutes

Fares

The bus ride is $2.50 (full adult). The type of payments that the bus accepts are:

  • cash (exact change only; bus operator does not provide change)
  • PRONTO Mobile App (demonstrate the purchase ticket to the bus operator)
  • PRONTO Fare Card (tap the fare card near the ticket vending machine)

At San Diego International Airport (near the luggage claim), there is a PRONTO Ticket Vending machine that sells PRONTO Fare Card. You can also purchase PRONTO Fare Card at any Trolley Station ticket vending machines or a participant retailers. San Diego International Airport

MTS Bus Route 992 stops at all terminals before traveling to Downtown San Diego.

Santa Fe Station

Santa Fe Station is like Union Station or a major train station. At that station, passengers can transfer to Amtrak (intercity train; mostly travels to Los Angeles), San Diego Trolley (Blue and Green Lines), North County Transit District (NCTA) COASTER Commuter Rail (travels to Oceanside and parts of northern San Diego County) and other San Diego MTS Bus.

Downtown San Diego

After the bus passes by Santa Fe Station, the route travels through Downtown San Diego and terminates at City College Station via Broadway. At City College Station, passengers can transfer to other MTS Bus Routes and Trolley Lines (Blue or Orange Line).
