Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) Metrobus Route 100 (formerly as 119) is a north/south bus that travels between Aventura Mall, Miami Beach, South Beach, Bayside Marketplace and Downtown Miami. In addition, Metrobus Route 100 is one of the busiest bus routes in MDT Metrobus system.
Aventura Mall is the third largest malls in the United States and the largest malls in Florida.
Trips
Northbound Bus
Metrobus 100 Northbound starts at Government Center Station in Downtown Miami. Government Center Station is the transfer point for Metrorail Green/Orange Line and all Metromover Lines (Brickell, Omni, Downtown, and Full Loop).
Southbound Bus
Metrobus 100 Southbound starts at Aventura Mall Stop. Aventura Mall Stop is a bus station to transfer selected Miami-Dade Transit Metrobus, Broward County Transit (BCT) and special event/private shuttle buses.
Fares
For a one-way trip cost at $2.25. All MDT Metrobuses accepts cash (exact change; bus operator does not carry cash or provide change), credit/debit card, Apple/Google Pay and MDT Fare Card/Pass.
Opinion
This route covers most of the touristic areas in Miami. This bus line arrives every 5-10 minutes (everyday). The only issue about this bus line is the ontime performance. This bus arrives late most of the time due to traffic (especially in South Beach and MacArthur Causeway) and passengers boarding/exiting the bus.
Traveling to Aventura Mall from Downtown Miami
If taking the bus between Downtown Miami and Aventura Mall, it will take almost one hour and thirty minutes. If traffic is heavy in Miami Beach and/or MacArthur Causeway, then the bus would take around two hours. I highly recommend taking Brightline between downtown and Aventura Mall. It will take seventeen minutes to travel between MiamiCentral Station (in Downtown Miami) and Aventura Station. In Aventura Station, Brightline offers a free shuttle bus that travels between Aventura Station and Aventura Mall.
Future
Since this is a highly usage bus route, MDT should consider using articulated buses to accommodate passenger overload during the day. At night, they can use those standard buses.
MDT is proposing to merge Metrobus Route 119 and 120 into one line, called Route 100. The propose Metrobus Route 100 will arrive every 5 minutes. I believe that this plan is on hold for the moment.
Miami-Dade County has proposed to build a Metromover from Downtown Miami area to Miami Beach Convention Center. Building a Metromover will alleviate Metrobus Route 119 and 120 passenger overload.
Although, it would be nice to build a heavy rail line to/from Miami Beach. Hopefully the Metromover would be long to accommodate more passengers.
Updates as of December 2023
After MDT implemented the new bus network, Route 100 is still the busiest bus routes in Miami-Dade. Almost everyday, this bus is standing room only! I wish MDT would use articulated buses (long buses) to address overcrowding. Or they can use double-decker bus.
