Atlanta MARTA Green Line is the shortest heavy rail lines in Atlanta Georgia (and maybe in the nation as well). In fact, the Green Line operates two rail cars and Bankhead station is the smallest station (can only accommodate two rail cars only). All other lines operates between five to eight rail cars.

After the Green Line departs from Bankhead, this line share tracks with the Blue Line.

Brief History of the Green Line
MARTA’s original plan for the Green Line was to start at Bankhead Station and terminate near Emerus University / North DeKalb County (northeast of Atlanta). In addition, The US Center for Disease Control (CDC) Headquarters is located right by Emerus University.
After the Edgewood/Candler Park Station, the Green Line would travel underground and travel northeast.
As of today, there is an abandoned (or ghost) subway tunnel that travels to northeast Atlanta. The tunnel was built because MARTA wants to have the infrastructure ready to expand the Green Line.
The Green Line expansion did not happened because there was no funding and growth of opposition of the neighbors.
Check out this interesting documentary in regards of the ghost subway tunnels.
